A celebrity comes to visit!

Adine Roode holding baby Kiana, Bertha Le Roux (Emma), Ilana Mahoney and Gretha Scheepers

Yesterday the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre was fortunate enough to receive a visit from Bertha le Roux, who is better known for her role as Emma on the popular television show 7de Laan.

Bertha arrived with husband Karel and baby Kiana to show off her beautiful range of children’s clothing called BabyB.

It all began in 2003 when her mother and sister started a project in Zambia to uplift women by teaching them how to sew. Inspired by the success they had in empowering these women, as well as by the arrival of her daughter, the idea for the BabyB clothing range began taking shape in her heart. Ultimately her vision was to find a way for these women to make baby clothes that were both beautiful and versatile, and at the same time earn a living from selling them.

Her company has since gone from strength to strength, and she now boasts a beautiful range of clothes that are rich in African colour and texture. These clothes all hand-stitched, and each piece is entirely unique and with its own story behind it.

We spent a lovely few hours with Bertha and her family here at the Centre, and we hope to see her back again soon.

Until next time,

Erika 🙂
