April Students – Update 1
Hello Again!
Wow…a lot has happened since I arrived last Tuesday. I went out on a drive with Khula – one of HESC’s cheetahs, and I was even able to stroke him. I’ve helped feed the cheetahs, which included some time in the butchery. It’s messy, it’s smelly, it’s not nice, but it’s a very necessary part of the job. I also assisted in vaccinating the cheetahs, which was absolutely amazing. Being a veterinary nurse, this was definitely a highlight for me.
I went on a boat trip down the Blyde River Canyon, which was beautiful. I saw some hippos and got some great pictures too!
Yesterday I went on a microlight flight, which was awesome. We flew over Hoedspruit Game Farms in this tiny plane, and I saw buffalo, giraffe and four rhinos! Being almost shoulder to shoulder with the vultures was also a first for me!
Each day is jam packed. It’s hard work, but I am absolutely loving it! The whole experience makes you want to learn as much as you can about animals and conservation. Visit Facebook or Flikr to see more photos of what I’ve been up to.
Greetings from Africa,
Teresa 😉
