Learners getting creative

Along with contributing to the daily care, maintenance and conservation of our endangered species, and participating in adventurous activities in the area, the HESC student programme has also “adopted” a local school – Paulos Ngobeni Primary School.

Once a month, a classroom full of children visit the HESC for interesting lessons about conservation, animals, and caring for our wildlife. Further to their educational visits, they also come once a month for arts and crafts, led by a local friend of the HESC, Selna.

This week, the children came to the centre to paint mugs with images of the Big Five (Elephant, Lion, Rhino, Buffalo, and Leopard) to be put on sale in the curio shop.

Jacqui with the learners

Miranda, a 12-year old learner from Paulos Ngobeni school, said that she liked coming to the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre because she got to learn about animals.

With help from Aunty Selna, beautiful creations were made by all!
