Johann ‘Tokkie’ Enslin

As a young boy I grew up on a farm. That’s where my passion for wildlife started, but I lacked that knowledge to help me grow and flourish in a nature related field. I then decided to attend a field guiding course at the Limpopo Field Guiding Academy. I realised then that field guiding was my passion.

A friend who was working at the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC) contacted me and asked if I would be interested in applying for a guiding position at the Centre. Having heard amazing stories about the work that is done at the Centre I jumped at the opportunity.

I have been at the Centre for a couple of months now, and am so glad that I was given the opportunity to work here. Every day has been a learning experience for me and has improved not only my guiding, but me as a person. Being able to show guests the beauty of nature and why the work we do at the Centre is so important is what I love the most about my job.
I know that by staying here for a while I will grow as a guide and will gain the necessary experience that will help me further my career, and develop my love for the bush.
