The Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre engages with and supports associations that encourage conservation and facilitate the management of animals in captive environments. Memberships and affiliations include:


The Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre was accredited by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) as a cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) captive-breeding institution in 2006 making it the second of only two organisations in South Africa that have been recognised in this way.

PAAZAB – Pan African Association of Zoos, Aquaria and Botanical Gardens 

We are a member of PAAZAB and are in the process of accreditation.

APP – African Preservation Programme 

We are a member of APP.

AROA – African Rhino Owners Association 

EMOA – Elephant Management Organisation of Africa

Since the closure of the Elephant Managers & Owners Association (EMOA) there is no organisation that can give technical advice with elephant related problems or develop guidelines for wise elephant management in South Africa. In recent years, various official nature conservation departments have indicated that they would appreciate a group that can advise on particular issues, evaluate applications and assist with developing guidelines.
