Our resident cheetahs have a ‘bone to pick’

Many of our visitors who have had the fortune of seeing our cheetahs in their feeding camps during the HESC daily tours will no doubt have noticed the cats enthusiastically chewing on bones.

Twice a week, each cheetah receives a bone to chew on after every feed. This helps to stimulate their jaw bones and muscles, and also keeps their teeth clean and healthy.

At first the cubs weren’t too interested, and took a while to get used to chewing on the bones. But now they eagerly await their ‘snack’ after every feed, which they immediately take possession of and ‘dig into’.

Fundamental to their development, we are of course delighted that the cubs are now adept at ‘jaw-zer-cise’.
