Since her last treatment, Philippa has been doing well. As we promised then, she has now received her new cast to cover her wound, left when poachers hacked off her horn and exposed her nasal cavity in the process.

The rhino cow was sedated, with a sedative M99, and the wound was checked for signs of infection and any maggots. Thankfully the wound looks good and is healing well.

Pro-vet Wildlife Services performed the procedure, and Janelle Goodrich cleaned the wound and covered it with swabs and F10 anti-bacterial ointment.

Dr. Brad Kidd brought the new cast he has made especially for Philippa, and placed it perfectly over the wound.

As it was a very hot day, our WCE participants cooled the rhino down with water.

We are optimistic for Philippa’s full recovery, and will watch her closely to see how she adjusts to her new protective covering.
