Update on Dezi’s preparation for the ‘run for rhinos’ in the upcoming Comrades Marathon

Dezi runs for the Rescued Rhinos @ HESC

Our accounts administrator, Dezi du Plessis, has been preparing for the upcoming Comrades Marathon where she will be running to raise funds for our Rescued Rhino @ HESC.
This is what Dezi had to say about her training progress in preparation of this big event.
“I am doing very well. I am carbo-loading and spending some quality time on the legs. There are no races I’m partaking in at this stage, but I run 10 – 12 km every second day during the week, and run longer distances over the weekend… but still keeping it constant and relaxing.
I am following a healthy diet and taking in a lot of proteins and carbohydrates. My diet consists of food such as potatoes, rice, red meat, and some red grape juice – all good for carbo-loading.
The nerves are now building up, but I’m also excited. This is going to be awesome and hopefully I’ll be physically and mentally ready before the race.
The last long race I ran was the 30th Loskop Marathon, which is a 50 km race. It took me 5 hours and 37 min to finish and I am still feeling good.

I will register my race number on the ‘Ultimate Sport Service’ Live App a day before the race. You can download this app from the Google Play store to track my progress on the day of the race. The app allows you to follow my every step during the race, and will notify you whenever I cross a timing carpet. It also shows the kilometres completed, and how far I still have to go, as well as my location.”
Any person or company who wishes to sponsor Dezi (and in-so-doing contribute to the care of orphans and survivors of poaching attacks) is welcome to pledge their support.
Donations will be used for the care of the rhinos already in the custody of HESC, but also for those victims still to arrive. The cost of care includes milk formula/ feed for orphaned calves, and medical care for those injured in the ongoing brutal poaching attacks.
Please contact Edith (admin@cheetahcentre.co.za) should you wish to sponsor Dezi.
