New York couple Heidi and Allen Roberts this year again hosted a series of dinners at their apartment for the charitable organisation US Friends of the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre that they established, to raise funds for HESC.

Known particularly for the series of fundraising dinners held annually in the New York apartment of Heidi and Allen Roberts and hosted personally by the couple, the US Friends of HESC this past year again raised a substantial amount at the dinners that have become a highlight on the New York social calendar.
The dinners not only raise funds for HESC, but create significant awareness of our cause. With a guest list that resembles the Who’s Who of New York, valuable and lasting relationships have been forged at these events.
Prizes sponsored by top South African product owners are auctioned at the dinners and purchased by guests eager to travel to South Africa to experience our superior tourism destinations. The delectable fare served at the dinners is prepared on site from food and drink also donated.
Vouchers for accommodation were donated and auctioned for Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve, Camp Jabulani, Ellerman House, Kapama Private Game Reserve, Khula’s Cottage at HESC, La Petite Dauphine, Mount Camdeboo Private Game Reserve, One&Only Cape Town, Rovos Rail, The Oyster Box Hotel and The Twelve Apostles Hotel.
Terlato Wines International donated the wine for the dinners and Citerella Catering, the food.
Over the years, the funds generated by the US Friends of HESC have been used for a number of key projects at HESC. Funding has been provided for programmes to rehabilitate victims of rhino poaching, anti-poaching security initiatives, the sinking of a borehole and construction of a reservoir to ensure adequate provision of water at HESC, and community outreach initiatives and internships to help deserving youngsters acquire skills that will earn them employment opportunities in tourism and conservation.
